Asbestos Test

What is an Asbestos Test?

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that was used widely in home materials before the 1980s and can have detrimental or lethal consequences if inhaled or digested. Asbestos Testing allows those that own or plan to own a house built before the 1980’s to understand potential areas where asbestos can be an issue and we can have samples analyzed by an accredited lab which can help determine any potential health risks due to elevated asbestos levels.

Why is an Asbestos Test required?

Evidence that asbestos possesses health risks dates to the late 1910s. In the decades since, the United States government continued to add restrictions on use, with the most extensive ban occurring in the late 1970s. This ban prohibited several uses of asbestos, hence heavily impacting its use in home construction.

Asbestos exposure can trigger serious health problems such as:

  • Chronic respiratory illness asbestosis
  • Mesothelioma
  • Lung cancer

For this reason, homeowners or buyers purchasing a home built before the mid 1980s should have their home tested for asbestos.

Asbestos can be found in all areas of the home including the attic, wall insulation, roofing and siding shingles, vinyl flooring and textured wall paint.
