Complete 100 Inspections Under Supervision
Successful applicants must have completed at least one hundred home inspections under their supervisor’s watch. During the at least ten inspections, the supervisor must be physically present, and then merely available for consultation and indirect supervision during the remaining training period. The applicant must also submit logs of their inspections, signed by the supervisor.

Pass the National Home Inspectors Exam
The NHIE consists of 200 multiple-choice questions across three domains and has a time limit of four hours. Each attempt costs approximately $225. Taking a prep course is recommended to improve your chances of passing on the first attempt.

Acquire Proof of Insurance
While Connecticut doesn’t require insurance for home inspectors, most—including every WIN Strategic Partner—carry it. To meet the standards of many boards and homeowner associations, it’s recommended to have $100,000 in Errors and Omissions coverage and $100,000 in General Liability coverage. Additionally, ensure that your personal name is included on the insurance documents.

Send the Application
Finally, the candidate needs to mail their application, either digitally or physically, to the DCP. They must get the application document notarized and include a payment of $290 ($250 license fee plus the $40 application fee).
